Buying Decanters…

Karen, I would like to purchase a unique decanter as a gift.  Most of the decanters I see in wine shops are all rather similar and basic in style.  Any good suggestions?

Yes.  One of the best sources in the country for elegant decanters is the Rare Wine Company based in Sonoma, California.  The company specializes in a line of hand-made, signed, and numbered decanters which are reproductions of early Georgian decanters (those made in England and Ireland between 1760 and 1810 during the reign of George III).  The decanters are expensive (several hundred dollars each) but absolutely exquisite.  They come in both regular and magnum sizes.
